Winter provides an abundance of citrus fruit, and we have been very busy juicing litres of the stuff!
The current range of citrus cordials was lacking a true bitter flavour, and I am very pleased to introduce the new Tangelo and Grapefruit Bitters.
Tangelos are a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit. They’re loaded with juice and have a wonderful tart flavour.
The flavour has a true bitter punch, packed with all the skins and zest of both fruits. All the peels are used and juiced along with the flesh, and this has resulted in a fabulously zesty and old fashioned bitters taste.
This would be seriously good added to a Margarita, or the old classic G&T. Or try this twist on a Martini.
Ice, juice of half a grapefruit, 1 1/2 ounce gin,( a standard shot), ¼ ounce measure – (7 ml) lime juice, 1 teaspoon Tangelo and Grapefruit bitters, lemon peel.
Combine all the ingredients except the lemon peel in a shaker. Shake and pour into a martini glass, rub lemon peel along the rim of the glass and then pop into cocktail.
Use ruby grapefruit when in season to add a wonderful pink tinge.
